I found these under my mattress. At first I thought they were insect eggs, but the reality surprised me greatly.

 Those are kalonji, black cumin seeds. Someone must have put them there on purpose. Mattresses.

I blinked in disbelief. Seeds? Under my bed?

When I looked it up online, I was stunned. Apparently, kalonji has been used for centuries as an amulet to ward off illness and evil energies, often hidden under mattresses, doorframes, or even sewn into pillows to attract peace and protection.
For a moment, I was scared. Who would do that without telling me?

Then I remembered that my grandmother had visited me a few weeks ago. She’s always been one of those women who believe in silent blessings and old ways.

That night I called her.
