A ZaginDron drone flying over the mountains captured a scene that no human being had ever seen.

The Kowalski family, who disappeared in 1998, left behind a mystery that haunted the Tatra Mountains for over two decades. A mysterious disappearance in the Tatra Mountains. In June 1998, the Kowalski family—Piotr, Anna, Mark, and Lisa—set out on a hike in the Tatra Mountains of southern Poland. What was meant to be a three-day expedition turned into one of the region’s most enduring unsolved mysteries. Piotr, a geology professor, and Anna, a nurse, were experienced hikers, as were their children. Yet they vanished without a trace, triggering a massive search.;@@@

2/12 Last sightings and start of the search: On June 21, 1998, the Kowalski family was last seen leaving the village of Zakopane. Local guide Stannis Noak noted their confidence as they began the ascent. At 2:00 p.m., other hikers reported seeing them leave the marked trails and head towards a remote valley. When the family had not returned by June 24, Anna’s sister alerted the authorities, thus launching one of the largest search operations in the history of the Tatra Mountains.

3/12 Unsuccessful Investigations and Theories. Despite the mobilization of over 150 people, helicopters, and ground teams, the search yielded nothing. The Tatra Mountains, with their steep slopes and dense forests, jealously guarded their secret. Thanks to their experience, the Kowalskis had been able to venture into remote areas, which further complicated the search. Over the years, this mystery has given rise to numerous theories, ranging from abduction to voluntary disappearance.
